Former Senegal international and current Teranga Lions coach, Aliou Cissé, has named Nigeria’s Super Eagles among the top favorites for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Speaking after Libya’s exit from the Arab Cup playoffs, Cissé expressed confidence in Senegal’s chances but admitted the competition will be fierce.“I hope it will be Senegal because my heart is with Senegal,” he said.
Beyond his home team, Cissé highlighted Morocco (hosts), Algeria, Egypt, and Nigeria as strong contenders for the title.“Apart from Senegal, there are many teams capable of winning this AFCON,” he noted.
He also emphasized the unpredictability of the tournament: unlike the FIFA World Cup, AFCON remains difficult to forecast and full of surprises.
The 2025 AFCON kicks off in Morocco from December 21 to January 18, featuring 24 nations battling for continental glory.
