Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has praised head coach Eric Chelle, even after Nigeria missed out on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team fell short in the African playoffs, losing 4-3 on penalties to DR Congo — their first defeat under Chelle.
Oliseh admitted he was initially skeptical about Chelle’s appointment but says the coach has since impressed him:”I was totally unhappy when he was appointed, but honestly, he has won me over. He’s done a lot and picked up points better than his two predecessors.”
Despite criticism following the World Cup miss, Oliseh believes Chelle deserves credit for his efforts. The Malian tactician will now focus on leading Nigeria to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in December.
