FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Cameroon following the country’s historic victory at the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Indomitable Lionesses claimed their first-ever WAFCON title with a convincing 3-0 win over Malawi in the final, sparking celebrations across Cameroon.
Reacting to the achievement, Infantino described the triumph as a landmark moment for the nation and praised the team for bringing joy to football fans across the country. 
“Congratulations to Cameroon for its triumph in the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. You have brought immense joy to this magnificent nation passionate about football through this first historic title,” Infantino said.
The FIFA president also commended Malawi for their outstanding performance, noting that reaching the final in their debut appearance at the tournament was a major accomplishment.
“Bravo as well to Malawi for its memorable first participation, of which the entire country can be immensely proud,” he added.
Infantino further expressed appreciation to CAF President Patrice Motsepe, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation led by Fouzi Lekjaa, and the people of Morocco for successfully hosting the tournament and helping elevate the profile of women’s football in Africa.
Cameroon’s title victory represents a significant milestone in the nation’s women’s football history, while Malawi’s runner-up finish stands as a remarkable achievement in their first continental campaign.
