Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has shared his thoughts ahead of AFCON 2025, backing DR Congo as his preferred winners while emphasizing the tournament’s significance for African players.
Kompany revealed his support for DR Congo stems from his heritage:”My father is Congolese and has invested in projects that provide education and safe housing for children in poverty. Congo is part of my roots, so I naturally support them.”
AFCON 2025 kicks off on December 21 in Morocco, with several Bayern players set to join their national teams after the Bundesliga clash with Mainz. 
Kompany confirmed Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson will head to AFCON after that match, wishing him success:”If Congo don’t win, I hope Jackson goes as far as possible. For African players, this competition is hugely important.”
He also praised Jackson’s impact at Bayern despite limited minutes:”His goals-per-minute ratio is strong, and his professionalism stands out. With Harry Kane leading the line, competition is tough, but that’s a good problem to have.”
