The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into the confrontations that erupted following Nigeria’s 2–0 win over Algeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final held in Marrakech.
According to reports from Africa Soccer, CAF is currently reviewing submissions from referees, security officials, and media representatives regarding the incident.
Nigeria secured their place in the semi-finals thanks to second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.
However, the match ended in chaos as Algerian players reportedly attempted to confront referee Issa Sy and his assistants over perceived unfair decisions. Stadium security intervened to prevent escalation.
Disturbances were also reported among Algerian fans, who allegedly tried to breach barriers and vandalized parts of the stadium.
CAF’s investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming days.
