Desiree Ellis Resolves Contract Dispute, Returns as Banyana Banyana Head Coach.

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has confirmed that her contract issues with the South African Football Association (SAFA) are finally resolved, clearing the way for her full return ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ellis, who has led the team since 2016, signed a new deal and is back in charge as South Africa prepares for an international friendly against Morocco on December 2.“Yeah, now everything is sorted,” Ellis said during an interview on Game On with Thabiso on Radio 2000, thanking SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao for her support.

The coach explained that stepping away temporarily was a tough but necessary decision to uphold her values and avoid distractions during the WAFCON qualifiers.“It was a tough decision… but sometimes you have to stand up for what you feel is right,” she noted.

With the contract saga behind her, Ellis is now focused on guiding the reigning African champions toward another successful campaign and driving the growth of women’s football in South Africa.

Banyana Banyana will look to build momentum as preparations for WAFCON 2026 and future global competitions intensify.
