Super Falcons Face Friendly Match Setback Ahead of WAFCON 2026.

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have encountered a disruption in their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following the withdrawal of Cape Verde from a scheduled double-header of international friendlies.

The matches were set to take place on April 15 and April 18, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, as part of Nigeria’s build-up to the tournament in Morocco this July. However, confirmations from both teams indicate that the fixtures have been cancelled after Cape Verde pulled out.

The cancellation has also impacted team logistics, with reported delays in the arrival of invited Nigerian players to camp. The friendlies were expected to help the technical crew assess the squad, improve team cohesion, and integrate new players alongside established stars.

In response, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to seek alternative opponents to ensure the Super Falcons maintain momentum ahead of their WAFCON 2026 campaign. Nigeria remains the most successful nation in the competition’s history, making quality preparation a key priority.
