Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule on Tuesday inspected the final stage of renovation work at the Lafia City Stadium in the Bukan‑Sidi area of Lafia.
The visit was part of his routine assessment of major infrastructure projects. He was joined by senior government officials, while the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, led the inspection around the upgraded facility.
Renovation work has reached about 99 percent completion. Governor Sule expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the project, noting his administration’s commitment to providing a modern stadium that meets national and international standards.
The upgrade includes a new Governor’s comfort room, updated technical benches, a new playing turf, floodlights for night games, a high‑capacity power generator, improved locker rooms, redesigned VVIP/VIP stands, a reconstructed retractable tunnel, and overall beautification of the complex.
Contractors confirmed that the project will be completed by Wednesday, February 5, 2026, ahead of Nasarawa United’s next NPFL home match against Bayelsa United.
Governor Sule said the improved stadium will restore its status as a top sporting venue and help position the state as a growing hub for sports tourism. He commended the ministry and contractors for keeping to schedule and delivering quality work.
Commissioner Kwanta Yakubu thanked the Governor for his continued support, adding that the renovation followed NPFL directives for upgrading club facilities to approved standards.
The Lafia City Stadium has long served as a key multipurpose venue for sports events hosted by various stakeholders across the country.
