The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has warned athletes and coaches against age falsification and doping as preparations intensify for upcoming international events, including the Commonwealth Games and the World Athletics Championships.
During a visit to the Delta State Sports Commission in Asaba, where the AFN is seeking approval to camp national athletes at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, AFN President Tonobok Okowa made it clear that malpractice will no longer be tolerated.
“Anyone found guilty of age falsification or doping will face sanctions in line with international athletics regulations,” Okowa said.
He emphasized that the federation is committed to global best practices, stressing that integrity, discipline, and fair play remain central to Nigeria’s athletics development.
Okowa added that the proposed national camp in Asaba is part of a broader plan to build a structured, high‑performance environment ahead of major competitions.
The AFN leadership also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with state associations, coaches, and athletes to restore credibility to Nigerian athletics and ensure only eligible, clean athletes represent the country internationally.
