Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze put up amazing performances against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City yesterday as Fulham lost by four goals to five in what was a thrilling Premier League fixture.
City took the lead early with goals from Haaland, Reijnders and Foden before Emile Smith Rowe pulled one back with a diving header. This left the score at 3-1 going into half time.
The second half was sparked straight into life by a second goal from Phil Foden at the far post. City then led by four goals to Fulham’s one.
It all seemed wrapped up but Iwobi and Chukwueze just had to have their say. In the 57th minute, Iwobi slapped one into the bottom corner from outside the box to make it 5-2. Chukwueze would then net two half-volleys back to back to make it 5-4 and give Fulham a glimpse of a point. Josh King nearly secured that point for them but his effort was cleared off the line by Josko Gvardiol.
All in all it was a pretty exciting match and though Fulham failed to get anything from it, they put up one hell of a fight and their two Super Eagles were a big part of that.
That performance from City does however raise questions as to their defensive solidity. To give up such a big lead and nearly let Fulham back into the game should be a big worry for City fans and should leave other clubs and their supporters wondering, “can they be got at defensively?”
