There is always a story behind the scoreline.
A goal can tell you who won. A table can tell you who is leading. Statistics can tell you what happened on the pitch. But sometimes, they do not tell you why it matters. 
That is where Blaqsport Podcast began.
Blaqsport was built from a simple belief: African sports deserve to be documented, discussed and told properly.
We did not start the podcast because there were not enough football conversations. There were already plenty of them.
We started because we believed there were not enough conversations that looked beyond the obvious.
More than the game
Sport is about much more than 90 minutes.
Behind every player is a journey. Behind every coach is a philosophy. Behind every academy is a story. Behind every journalist covering a tournament is an experience. Behind every young footballer dreaming of becoming a professional is a decision that could shape the rest of their life.
Those are the stories we want to capture.
Over the years, Blaqsport Podcast has allowed us to speak with players, coaches, journalists, scouts, analysts and people working behind the scenes in sport.
Some conversations have been about football development.
Others have been about education and the balance between academics and sport. We have spoken about scouting, data, mental health, the business of football, pathways into professional sport and the realities that young athletes face.
Because sometimes the most important part of a football story happens away from the pitch.
Telling African stories from wherever we are
Our journey has also taken us into some of the biggest conversations in African football.
From AFCON coverage to WAFCON, from domestic football to the international game, we have continued to ask questions and tell stories from an African perspective.
We have travelled, watched, listened and reported.
But we have also learned that you do not always need to be physically inside a stadium to be part of an important sporting conversation.
Technology has allowed Blaqsport to connect stories from Africa with audiences across the UK, the United States and beyond.
That matters to us.
Because African sport does not exist in isolation.
African players are playing around the world. African coaches are building careers internationally. African journalists are covering global competitions. African academies are developing the next generation. And African fans are following it all from different corners of the world.
Blaqsport exists to connect those stories.
Why the podcast matters to us
For us, the podcast is not simply another piece of content.
It is a record.
A record of where African sport is today.
A record of the people shaping it.
A record of the challenges we are facing.
A record of the progress being made.
And, hopefully, a record that someone can look back on years from now and understand what this period in African sport felt like.
We want to preserve conversations that might otherwise disappear.
A journalist’s experience covering a major tournament.
A coach explaining how players are developed.
A scout talking about what clubs actually look for.
A player discussing the reality of trying to make it professionally.
A conversation about the opportunities and problems within African football.
These conversations matter because people matter.
We tell stories because someone needs to hear them.
Perhaps a young footballer is listening who is wondering whether they should continue pursuing the game.
Perhaps a parent is trying to understand the pathway their child is entering.
Perhaps an aspiring journalist is looking for inspiration.
Perhaps a coach is trying to understand a different approach.
Perhaps there is someone thousands of miles away who simply wants to understand African sport better.
We may never know exactly who is listening.
And that is part of the beauty of storytelling.
You tell the story because you believe it deserves to exist.
The journey continues
Blaqsport Podcast has grown, but the reason for telling these stories has remained the same.
We want to ask better questions.
We want to give people a platform.
We want to document African sport beyond the headlines.
We want to connect Africa with the rest of the sporting world.
And most importantly, we want to create an archive of conversations that future generations can discover.
Because today’s conversation can become tomorrow’s history.
And every match has a story.
Every player has a story.
Every tournament has a story.
Every person working to move African sport forward has a story.
That is why we tell them.
