NPFL Sanctions Trigger Kun Khalifat FC’s Immediate Withdrawal.

Kun Khalifat FC have announced their immediate withdrawal from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following disciplinary action taken against the club for failing to honour their Matchday 24 fixture against El‑Kanemi Warriors.

The controversy began when the newly promoted side, currently bottom of the table, did not appear for the scheduled match. The NPFL Board subsequently charged the club with breaching league rules. As part of the sanctions, Kun Khalifat forfeited three points and three goals to El‑Kanemi Warriors and received a suspended ₦10 million fine, which would take effect if a similar offence occurred before the end of the 2025–26 season. They were given 48 hours to appeal.

Instead of filing an appeal, the club issued a statement on Wednesday night confirming their withdrawal from the league. In the statement signed by CEO Michael Amaefula, Kun Khalifat said their absence resulted from circumstances beyond their control and that they had notified the NPFL beforehand. They cited a breakdown of team vehicles and claimed the league ignored their communication.

The club described the sanctions as unfair and accused the NPFL of bias, arguing that the decision to reschedule the match and impose penalties was disproportionate. They stated that they could no longer remain in a league that, in their view, prioritises punishment over fairness.

Kun Khalifat called on the NPFL to review its policies and urged other clubs to demand greater accountability from league administrators. Despite withdrawing, the club reaffirmed its commitment to Nigerian football and said it would seek other platforms to develop and showcase its players.

As of now, the NPFL has not released an official response to the club’s decision.
