Yakubu Aiyegbeni pulls no punches! He says Nigeria’s over-reliance on Victor Osimhen cost the Super Eagles a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Osimhen scored a hat-trick against Gabon to send Nigeria into the African playoff final, but was substituted at halftime during the loss to DR Congo—a change that impacted the team’s performance.
Interestingly, the Super Eagles have never lost a match when Osimhen scores or assists.
Aiyegbeni criticized other strikers for failing to step up:“We have four other strikers, but only one delivers. Only one plays with real aggression and passion. The rest seem happy just being in the squad,” he said on the Home Turf podcast.
