Manchester City’s hopes of closing the gap on Arsenal took a hit as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday.
City entered the game knowing a win would leave them just one point behind the Gunners at the top of the Premier League. However, despite dominating early and creating several clear chances, Pep Guardiola’s side failed to make their pressure count.
Newcastle struck first through Harvey Barnes, who redeemed himself after missing earlier opportunities. The visitors responded quickly, with Ruben Dias leveling the score via a deflected effort just three minutes later. 
But the Magpies weren’t done. Barnes bundled home his second goal to restore Newcastle’s lead, and the hosts held firm under late pressure to secure a memorable victory in front of their passionate home crowd.
City now remain four points adrift of Arsenal, while Newcastle celebrate a huge win that could boost their confidence for the rest of the season.
