With less than two weeks until the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, Nigeria’s D’Tigress continue their preparations without head coach Rena Wakama, who remains in the United States due to her coaching commitments with WNBA side Chicago Sky.
Wakama, who is expected to rejoin the team before the tournament, has been absent from camp as the African champions progress through their training programme in Spain. D’Tigress have held camps in Chicago, China, and Spain as part of their build-up to the World Cup in Germany.
The team’s recent results have been mixed, including an 88-77 win over China and defeats to China, Spain, and Belgium. With final preparation games against Mali and Puerto Rico still to come, attention is increasingly turning to Wakama’s anticipated return and the team’s readiness for the global showpiece. 
Nigeria will open its World Cup campaign on September 4 in Berlin and has been drawn in Group B alongside France, South Korea, and Hungary.
