This is a question we must all ask ourselves.
By now we must all be aware of Lookman’s transfer to the red side of Madrid from Atalanta for a total fee of €40m Certainly a step up for the Nigerian international. Now we have to wonder; how exactly will Simeone use him?
Lookman is a versatile player, that could play as a Left-Midfielder or as a Supporting Striker in Simeone’s system, considering the fact that he plays a 4-4-2. 
Now if Simeone plans to use him as the latter, that means he’d be in competition with World Cup winning Argentine forward Julian Alvarez , who Atleti signed for a whopping €95m last season.
Alvarez scored 17 goals in La Liga last season, but only has 7 goals this season in the Spanish league. Lookman on the other hand scored 15 goals in the Serie A last season but only has 2 in the Italian league this season. Safe to say that neither player is performing at the levels they were last season, at least in terms of numbers. One thing however is sure. When speaking of like for like profiles, then these two are a perfect match and would give Atleti different options in the attack.
Whether it’s Lookman on the left with Alvarez and Sorloth up front or Lookman and Sorloth up front or even Lookman and Alvarez up front, the possibilities after adding an X-factor player like Lookman are endless.
Now what implications could this have on their standing in the league? In a season where Madrid are not firing at their best and Barcelona, while they top the league are undoubtedly shaky at the back, can Lookman’s arrival potentially spur Atletico Madrid to a La Liga title? We’ll just have to wait and see.
