Team Nigeria Shines on Day 2 of the African Youth Games.

Nigeria delivered an impressive performance on the second day of the 4th African Youth Games, securing a silver medal in the badminton team event and recording strong results in other sports.

In badminton, Nigeria pushed hosts Algeria to the limit in a thrilling team final. After Algeria won the first tie 45–41, Nigeria fought back with a 45–43 victory to level the contest. The decisive third game was just as close, but Algeria edged it 45–43 to claim gold, leaving Nigeria with a hard-fought silver medal.

Focus now shifts to golf, where Josephine Clement Benjamin and Destiny Oyero will tee off in Friday’s Round 1. Both are expected to put up a strong challenge against top golfers from across Africa.

Swimming also begins Friday at the Piscina do Alvalade pool in Angola. Nigeria will feature in the opening programme with Akinsanmi Omolola in the girls’ 100m freestyle and Aidan Dumuje-Abili in the boys’ 100m freestyle. Heats start at 9 a.m., finals at 6 p.m.

In table tennis, Nigeria impressed with dominant wins:

 Girls’ singles team beat Kenya 3–0 in the Round of 16

 Boys’ singles team defeated Angola 3–0

 Boys’ team outclassed Algeria 4–1 in a best-of-seven series

The girls’ team fought hard but fell 4–2 to Algeria in their own best-of-seven clash.
