Former Liverpool striker and pundit Stan Collymore has taken aim at Mohamed Salah, saying the Egyptian star has “tricked himself” into believing he belongs in the same elite category as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
This comes after Salah’s explosive post-match interview following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, where he expressed frustration over being benched.
Salah has started from the bench in the last three games under manager Arne Slot and was not called upon in the last two matches—fueling his discontent.
Collymore argued that while Salah’s achievements at Anfield are remarkable, they do not place him on the same level as Messi or Ronaldo:“Mo maybe has almost tricked himself into elevating himself to untouchable status… Mo isn’t them, and Liverpool isn’t that club either.”
It’s also unusual for Salah to have scored just five goals in 19 matches this season.
