Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Faouzi Lekjaa is reportedly set to resign after more than a decade in charge as he shifts focus to politics, according to reports.
Lekjaa has led the FRMF since 2014. He is said to have reached an agreement to join the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) and is expected to run as a candidate in Morocco’s parliamentary elections on September 23, 2026.
His potential departure would mark the end of a highly successful era for Moroccan football. Under his leadership, Morocco hosted major continental competitions, significantly improved its football infrastructure, achieved global recognition with the Atlas Lions’ historic run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals, making back to back World Cup quarterfinals and secured co-hosting rights for the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal. 
An official announcement regarding his resignation is still awaited.
